Update - since the pain only occurs when I'm drinking hot or cold liquids, the dentist was hesitant to recommend a root canal right now. But she did say that I should be watchful and if it gets worse, to call and she'd set up an appointment for a specialist to do the procedure. Yuck. I hope it does get better.

I'm going to the dentist in a few minutes. I had a tooth filled a few weeks ago and ever since then it's been sensitive, to vary degrees, when exposed to hot or cold. I talked to my mom last night about it and she said I may have to get a root canal. I am scared to death. I'm a big enough baby already about just plain old fillings. But a root canal? I think I'm gonna freak out.

Here's to hoping all I need is a seal or new filling or something. I'll update on the tooth situation when I get back. If I come back alive.

Mark and I went to Alabama this weekend. Well, actually we left on Thursday evening, after a daylong runaround with our local mechanic. We brought Mark's car in Wednesday just so they could check it and tighten the belts and do everything to prepare it for the long road trip. They said it would be ready by Thursday at noon. Noon came and went. I called the mechanic. "Well, we've been backed up, but it's the next one in, so it shouldn't be long." OK, fine. 4:30 rolls around and still no news. I call again. "Well, we've been backed up, but it's the next one in." After politely but firmly informing him that I was fed that same line four hours ago, they finally get off their asses and look at it, but we were still three hours late getting on the road. They did most of our stuff for free.

If you're curious, the place is Groovy Automotive. They're good, but don't bring your car in if you need it back right away.

So anyway, we went home. It was nice. But I was going a little crazy at the last because my family is not too fastidious about housekeeping. They have all this shit, most of which serves no purpose, and it's everywhere. On the floors, on chairs, on the piano, piled up on the couch. And I'm the kind of girl that loves to run through the house every month with a garbage bag throwing away superfluous crap, so this irked me. But I loved spending time with my parents and my sisters. My 18-month-old niece is quite a cutie these days.

My parents are moving out of their house to a newer, bigger one really soon, so this weekend may be the last time I ever see the house I grew up in. But I say good riddance. It's way out in the middle of nowhere and needs a lot of repairs. (My dad isn't too fastidious about home maintenance either.) They had a lot of junk in the yard, but some of that has been cleaned up. The new place is just a few years old and only lived in the house a few months. It's really sad - this guy built the house for his wife, who was terminally ill. She died before the house was ready, so the guy moved into it alone. But he moved out just a short while later - I guess he moved in with a relative or wanted to move somewhere smaller. So he let the house go back to the bank, just stopped paying the note. The house has been vacant for three years now, so it's barely been used and it's gorgeous. I'm excited for everyone.

But the eating. It was bad. It was very, very bad. The day we got into town - Friday (we took 2 days to get there) - we went to a seafood place. They don't serve anything grilled or broiled. It was all fried. I managed to get boiled shrimp, but I had to also have fried catfish and flounder...then there was Sunday night at my parents' - they stuffed us with more fried shrimp, ice cream and everything else bad for you. It was a sight. I'm back today with my granola bars and turkey sandwich...I'm also due at kundalini yoga today, but since that's no exercise I'm going to try and walk around downtown for a little while too...I don't have my car with me today (Mark and I carpooled), so I can't go to the gym.
