losin' it

Summer has definitely arrived in Texas. It's as hot as an oven around here most days. Today it's really rainy and crappy, but at least it's fairly cool and my pretty purple petunias aren't wilting in the heat. On a normal day I'd have to water my plants twice so they don't shrivel up and die.

Mark has started to work out with me most days, and I like it, but I don't like it. On the one hand there's somebody on the next treadmill that I can talk to about the stuff we're watching on CNN while we run, and there's someone to keep me company on the way to the gym and on the way home. But on the other hand, I feel like I have to shorten my workouts for him, since he doesn' t really want to be there longer than 40 minutes. I insisted we go for 45 minutes yesterday and he grumbled, but he did it. If I were alone, I'd be going 50 minutes or more. Oh well, we'll stay at 45 for a while and then I'll sneak in those extra 5...

The kundalini yoga class I signed up for at UT was cancelled on Tuesday, the first scheduled meeting day. Apparently the instructor fell sick and couldn't come. Well, she better add an extra week on to the class, because I paid $50 for five weeks and I expect to get five class sessions in.

The kitties got declawed on Tuesday, and I feel like the absolute worst kitty mother in the world now. They came home yesterday. The vet shaved their paws, so they look really odd and bony, and there are little sutures where they took the claws out. They did it with lasers, so it's not anywhere near as bloody or painful as it would have been with a knife. But they're still walking really gingerly on their front paws, like it hurts, and I had to set out a plate of water and a plate of food, because they can't bear to put any weight on their paws, which they would have to do to lean over into their regular food and water bowls. With the plates, they can pretty much lie on the floor and eat/drink. It's heartbreaking. I got up extra early today to give them their pain meds. I hope they help.
